Morris Republican St. Sen. Sue Rezin wants an independent commission to draw the next set of legislative maps for Illinois.

Rezin says the commission would have an equal number of Democrats and Republicans, plus non-partisan members. It would have to hold ten hearings, four of them after a new map is proposed.

Rezin says as things are now, the state is on track to adopt new maps based on population estimates instead of Census Bureau data. On WCMY’s Morning Meeting, she said while state law requires new maps by the end of June, the state constitution allows until October 5.
