A barge company is asking LaSalle County to let it tie more barges on the Illinois River along riverfront property the county owns. County Board Chairman Don Jensen says Artco can tie up to three barges in that spot near the county’s nursing home and highway department building. It wants to tie up to nine. Ann Newell, who helps care for the pauper’s cemetery in the area, wants to protect the graves.
Jensen assured Newell at a recent County Board Property Committee meeting, Artco’s plans won’t affect anything but the river.
To tie more barges there, more concrete blocks would be installed in the river close to the shore.
