St. Sen. Sue Rezin is supporting a bill she says would protect 28,000 jobs directly and indirectly supported by the nuclear power industry. The Morris Republican also says it would strengthen labor unions and provide energy rate relief to low income people. The Climate Union Jobs Act is its name.
Supporters say it will protect jobs by recognizing that the Braidwood, LaSalle, Byron, and Dresden nuclear power plants don’t burn fossil fuels to generate electricity. And it would create an easier transition for communities that would lose jobs because their economies depend on coal-fired power plants.
