An animal got onto the power lines on top of a pole on Ottawa’s south side Friday afternoon and tripped a fuse. Fire fighters found a squirrel’s body beside the pole at Marcy and Thompson streets where they went for a grass fire. The fire department believes the squirrel made contact with hot and neutral connections at the same time, and the resulting electric jolt set the animal on fire. Its burning body set some dried grass and leaves on fire. Ameren Illinois sent a crew to deal with any power connection issues and reset the fuse.
