Cong. Adam Kinzinger voted in favor of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021. It would require firearm transfers between unrelated and unlicensed people to be done through licensed dealers. That way a background check will be done to make sure someone who isn’t legally allowed to own a gun isn’t getting one.

Kinzinger, a Channahon Republican, says background checks are critical to keeping firearms out of the wrong hands. He says he believes in the right to keep and bear arms legally and supports concealed carry. And he says the bill would not create a national firearms registry, nor would it stop someone from letting someone else use a gun for hunting, shooting range practice, or dealing with an imminent threat.
