A company called Hickory Wind LLC will put up a test wind tower four miles west of Tonica. If that’s a windy enough area for a new wind energy farm, it’ll ask the LaSalle County Board for permission to build one.
Lostant Republican County Board member Randy Freeman was the only no vote when the board approved the test turbine this week. He says the people in the area are against wind farms and he doesn’t know enough about the project.
One thing that bothered Freeman was not being able to find out about the project at this week’s County Board meeting. Once the Zoning Board of Appeals has its hearing, county officials aren’t supposed to take any new information about the project.
