 Illinois opens play in the Big Ten Tournament this Friday in Indianapolis.  The 4th-ranked Illini are the number-two seed, earning a double-bye to the quarterfinal round.  The Illini will face the winner of the Rutgers – Indiana contest.  The Fighting Illini defeated Ohio State Saturday to wrap up the regular season.  Illinois won 16 Big Ten games, the most in program history.

Loyola is headed to the NCAA Tournament after defeating Drake 75-65 in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship game in St. Louis. The Ramblers reached the Final Four as an 11-seed in 2018. 

In College football

The SIU Salukis won at Youngstown State 30-22

ISU lost to Northern Iowa 20-10

Western lost on the road to South Dakota State 45-10

On Sunday, Eastern was outscored by UT Martin 28-15.

The White Sox were held to just two hits in a 1-0 defeat to the Rockies at Camelback Ranch.  Tim Anderson and Yoán Moncada recorded the Sox only two hits.  Lucas Giolito struck out two and walked one in three scoreless innings for the south-siders who face the Dodgers today.

 Anthony Rizzo belted a two-run homer and Willson Contreras added a solo shot in the Cubs’ 5-4 loss to the D-backs in Scottsdale.  Jake Arrieta made his first start for The North-Siders in four years, allowing one-hit and one walk in two innings.  The Cubs host the Rangers today.

  

Tyler O’Neill drilled a three-run homer in the Cardinals 8-5 win over the Astros in Jupiter, Florida. The Cards host the Marlins today.

The Blackhawks lost to the Lightning 6-3 at the United Center.  Kevin Lankinen stopped 33 shots in the loss.  The hawks open a six-game road trip tomorrow night in Dallas.

Last night was the NBA all-star game and Team LeBron were winners over Team Durant 170-150 in Atlanta. 

Over in the PGA, Bryson DeChambeau won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando. 

 

And in NASCAR, Kyle Larson won the Pennzoil 400 in Las Vegas.
