Ottawa City Hall is borrowing $15 million in two bond issues. $5 million will be used for running a water main to a recently annexed area at Illinois 71 and Interstate 80. $10 million is for sewer system improvements all over town, required to separate the storm and sanitary sewers and prevent household sewage from going to the rivers.
City Commissioner Wayne Eichelkraut says the 20-year bond issue for the sewer work is a good deal.
The city has been working on the storm and sanitary sewer separation for about a decade.
