An Ottawa woman agrees to four years in an intense probation program. Twenty-one year old Claudia D. Smith pleaded guilty Friday to unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. Judge H. Chris Ryan sentenced her to the Adult Redeploy program which is aimed at keeping people out of prison while giving them reasons to change their behavior.
Smith was arrested last June after a drug deal in Ottawa. Because the heroin was mixed with far more potent and deadly fentanyl, Smith could have gotten up to ten years in prison. Her bond amount was $1 million. She never posted it and has been in the county jail since. She’s still there waiting for an opening in the probation program.
