LaSalle County Environmental Services and Land Use Department Director Brian Gift would like to shorten the department’s name. He feels Land Use Department is enough.
Gift told the County Board’s Land Use and TIF Committee Wednesday, there’s sometimes confusion about the “environmental use” part of the department name. People sometimes go to his department to ask about wells and septic tanks which are overseen by the Health Department. And he says some people take environmental services to include janitorial work.
Committee member Mike Kasap thinks people won’t know where to go for environmental services, but fellow member Don Trager thinks it’ll be okay.
Gift says now’s a good time for the name change. Zoning ordinance updates are working their way through the approval process. The ordinance’s references to the department can be changed too.
