Leslie Sommer, 64, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.Visitation will be on Saturday, March 2, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will follow at noon, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dick Ewing officiating. The family requests that all attendees wear their favorite Hawaiian apparel. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.Leslie was born May 11, 1959, in Streator, IL, to David Lee and Alice (Berta) Drapp. She married Richard Sommer on September 10, 1983 in Streator.Leslie loved to socialize. She never met a stranger, especially as she was bartending at Aric’s in Naplate. She could sit and talk to anyone for hours. She was also the owner and designer of Designed For You. She had a love for art that suited her very well in her design business. She was also an extremely talented artist and painted many beautiful abstract art pieces. She was an activity coordinator for many years at Friendship Village and volunteered as a coach for the Special Olympics. She enjoyed golfing, traveling to Hawaii to visit her sons and granddaughter, and going to Florida or Wisconsin. She and Rich enjoyed going out to eat at different restaurants and taverns and always enjoyed trying somewhere new. Above all though, she adored her family and friends; they were everything to her and she never missed an opportunity to spend time with the ones she loved.She is survived by her husband, Richard Sommer; her children, Jamie (Joe) Johnston, Matt Sommer, and Tyler Sommer; her grandchildren, Devin Veith, Samantha (Garrett) Hurst, Jace Veith, and Emma Lou Sommer; her brothers, Kirk (Mary) Drapp and Darren (Barb) Drapp; her dog, Baxter, who she affectionately nicknamed Pumpkin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
