Democratic Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin say the evidence was convincing, so they voted to convict former Pres. Trump of inciting the Capitol riot last month. Even though the votes to convict weren’t enough to convict, Duckworth says it sends a message that no president of any party has free rein to incite violence at any point in their term. But she says she’s disheartened that so many of her Republican colleagues didn’t agree.

Durbin expressed the same feeling and says he wishes the Senate sent an unequivocal message that it’s unacceptable for any president to incite violence to stop the peaceful transition of power.

Cong. Adam Kinzinger, one of the House Republicans who voted to impeach, says he’s disappointed in the Senate. He says he’ll be looking at alternative options to ensure responsibility and accountability so the events of January 6th don’t happen again. Kinzinger didn’t say what those options may be. Kinzinger says to those who think the impeachment was rushed or has divided the country, they should remember that former Pres. Trump “put all of us–Congress and the American people–in this lose-lose situation”.
