Frozen water pipes could be a problem in some homes this weekend. Karen Cotton with Illinois American Water says running a trickle of water somewhere in the home can keep the water flowing so it doesn’t freeze. That can also prevent problems outside the home.

You may also be able to open a door to let warm air into the space where the pipes are. Cotton says if pipes freeze, turn off the water to the house and carefully thaw the pipes with a safe heat source.
