Today in college basketball

Notre Dame will host the 20th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies in South Bend Indiana.  The 5-8 Irish are still looking for their first win over a ranked opponent this season.

In the NHL

The Chicago Blackhawks lost in overtime to The Predators 3-2 in Nashville.  Dylan Strome and Mattias Janmark  had goals for Chicago, which dropped to 2-3-and-2.  The Hawks did extend their point streak to four games.  The Blackhawks and Predators will face off again tonight in Nashville.

Over in the NBA

Bulls center Wendell Carter Jr. will be out of the lineup for a while.  The Chicago big man is expected to miss at least four-weeks after an MRI revealed a severe bruise on his right quad.  Carter missed the last three games after a collision in practice last week.  This is the third straight season Carter has missed significant time due to an injury.

Some Baseball News

No players are heading to the National Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the 2021 class.  All 25 players up for election fell short of the required 75-percent of the vote needed to make it to Cooperstown.  It marks the first time since 2013 that no player was selected and just the ninth time ever.  Curt Schilling was the highest vote-getter after receiving 71.1-percent of the vote.  Barry Bonds was next at 61.8-percent followed by Roger Clemens at 61.6-percent.

Curt Schilling is asking to be removed from the writers’ ballot next year.  The right-hander, who would be in his final year of eligibility, said he would rather defer to the veterans committee “whose opinions actually matter and who are in a position to actually judge a player.”  Hall of Fame Board Chairperson Jane Forbes Clark said the board will consider the request.

The Philadelphia Phillies are bringing back catcher J.T. Realmuto on a record-setting deal.  The two sides have agreed to a five-year, 115-and-a-half-million-dollar contract.  The 23-point-one-million-dollars in average annual salary is the highest ever for a catcher in MLB history, surpassing Joe Mauer’s 2010 deal with the Twins.

Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky is celebrating after getting engaged to longtime girlfriend Hillary Gallagher.  The Video of the proposal yesterday at a Florida resort was posted on Instagram.  Trubisky will be a free agent in March after the Bears decided not to pick up his fifth-year option.

Speaking of Football

There hasn’t been an NFL game with the final score 7-to-zero in almost 40 years.  The last time was December 4, 1983, when the Patriots beat the Saints 7-0.
