Sen. Dick Durbin says the country needs to get rid of the death penalty. Several states, including Illinois, don’t allow it. But it is allowed in some cases prosecuted under federal law.
Durbin says it’s used disproportionately against minorities and the poor. The Illinois Democrat is supporting the Federal Death Penalty Prohibition Act of 2021. It would require those currently on the federal death row to be resentenced.
