Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen’s presence in Peru is nearing fruition as the city anticipates finalizing the property acquisition by the month’s end. The Peru City Council unanimously approved a resolution on Monday, endorsing the transfer of a purchase agreement from AbyGroups, Inc. to AbyPeru, Inc. Corporate Counsel Scott Schweickert highlighted that the resolution facilitates AbyGroups in waiving due diligence to assign the purchase agreement to AbyPeru before the imminent closing. The city, having greenlit the $300,000 purchase agreement in May for the formal municipal property at 1839 and 1841 May Road, is poised to conclude the transaction. AbyGroups acquired approximately 4 acres from the city at an average cost of around $78,000 per acre. The forthcoming Popeyes, spanning 2,515 square feet with a quick-serve, drive-thru restaurant, is expected to commence construction in the spring, with an estimated completion and opening by the end of the following year.

*Updated: The restaurant developers were unavailable to provide an updated construction timeline for the restaurant as they were not in attendance at the Monday the 16th meeting.

Corporate Counsel Scott Schweickert was quoted as saying, “Construction possibly could start in late spring or summer of this year, and open by the end of next year”.

A search of the address and property details shows the site of the restaurant will be between the McDonald’s and Super 8 Hotel located on the Northside of May Road.
