The Illinois 178 bridge over the Vermillion River just north of Lowell needs repairs. The Illinois Department of Transportation says it was built in 1934 and was last rehabilitated in 1989. Location and Environmental Studies Engineer Dave Alexander says the open spandrel arch bridge is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. So the goal is to repair it without leaving it looking like it’s been repaired.

IDOT is taking public comment on the $800,000 bridge repairs until Monday, January 11.
