Adam Eaton is returning to the White Sox. The 32 year old outfielder has agreed to a one-year contract with Chicago.  Eaton played three seasons with the White Sox from 2014-16, before spending the last four years with the Nationals.  The signing comes one day after the White Sox agreed to acquire Lance Lynn from Texas for pitchers Dane Dunning and Avery Weems.

Jose Abreu continues to receive recognition for his outstanding 2020 season.  The White Sox first baseman earned the American League Hank Aaron Award, which honors the most outstanding regular-season offensive performer in each league.  Abreu won the AL MVP award in November after leading the AL in hits, RBIs, slugging percentage, and total bases. Abreu is the first Sox player to receive the Hank Aaron Award, which was established in 1999.

 Cubs manager David Ross is rounding out his coaching staff for 2021 with the hiring of Willie Harris as his third-base coach. Harris spent the past two years as the baserunning and outfielder coordinator in the Reds’ Minor League system.  The 42-year-old won a World Series ring with the White Sox in 2005.

In College Basketball

  Ninth-ranked Illinois handed number-11 Duke an 83-68 loss in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Durham, North Carolina.  Ayo Dosunmu  led the Illini with 18 points and Kofi Cockburn added 13 points.  Illinois improved to 4-and-1.  The Illini hits the road to face Missouri in their Braggin’ Rights game on Saturday.

Northern Illinois lost to Ball State 79-70 in overtime. The game marked the first Mid-American Conference matchup of the season for both teams. .  

Notre Dame lost at home to the twentieth  ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 90-85. The Fighting Irish are now 1-2 on the season.

Tonight  Northwestern will host the Pitt Panthers in Dekalb. The Wildcats are 2-0.

There will be no Michigan-Ohio State football game this year.  The Wolverines have canceled Saturday’s scheduled game in Columbus due to an increase of coronavirus cases within the program.  The classic rivalry has been played every year since 1918.  With only five games played, The Buckeyes are currently not eligible for the Big Ten championship.

Last night there was NFL action due to a COVID reschedule, The Ravens rushed for 294 yards as they topped the Cowboys 34-17 in Baltimore.  Lamar Jackson threw for two touchdowns to move Baltimore to 7-and-5. The Cowboys fell to 3-and-9.

The NHL has agreed to accept the collective bargaining agreement that was ratified months ago and is eying a January 13th start with a reduced schedule of 52 or 56 games.
