Donors are believed to have given and pledged at least $69,000 to the annual Freezin’ for a Reezin food drive Friday. That’s estimated to provide more than 44,000 meals to families that don’t have enough food. The Ottawa Community Food Basket will buy the food over the next few months.
The food drive organized by volunteers and backed by WCMY couldn’t be held with the customary food drop-offs in the Handy Foods grocery store parking lot this year. Pandemic restrictions would have made it impossible to keep all the volunteers apart from each other while collecting and sorting the food all day long.
