Structure Fire
For Immediate Release
A Peru police officer doing routine patrol spots flames shooting out of a residential home.
Just after 2:30 am, a Peru police officer doing a routine patrol noticed flames and heavy smoke coming out of the roof. Immediately the officer contacted Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch to page out Peru Fire. Due to this being a structure fire, Peru Fire’s general alarm was pulled, bringing Peru ambulance, LaSalle Fire, Spring Valley Fire, and Oglesby with Utica change of Quarters. Shortly after that, Tonica Fire was also called.
Firefighters completed an inside search with no findings of anybody in the residence.
Homeowners were contacted and confirmed to us that nobody was living in the residence.
After speaking to multiple neighbors in the area, they all told the officers that they saw the lightning flash and then heard a loud bang. Fire units returned from the scene around 5:30 am. Nobody was hurt during the incident.
At this time, the fire is undetermined, but not suspicious.
