Almost half the 80 patients staying at Morris Hospital are there with coronavirus symptoms. A hospital statement issued Wednesday says the 39 coronavirus patients as of Tuesday is a figure way up from just ten on October 31st.

The hospital has had to postpone surgeries because it didn’t have enough room for patients who needed to recover in the hospital away from other patients with the virus. CEO Mark Steadham says surgeries that don’t require a hospital stay can still go on, but everything is being evaluated day to day.

He urges people to forget politics, fear, and recovery rates, and focus instead on slowing the virus’ spread so the health care system isn’t crushed.
