Elizabeth Ann “Bette” (Bader) Meyer, 91, of rural Marseilles, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at St. Columba Catholic Church in Ottawa, with Msgr. Mark Merdian, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home. The Catholic Daughters of America will recite the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.
Bette was born on September 5, 1932, in Earlville to August E. and Helen A. (Blass) Bader. She was a graduate of Earlville High School, class of 1950. Bette married John Joseph Meyer on February 14, 1953, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Earlville. Bette worked as an income tax preparer and served as the treasurer of the Board of Education at Rutland School. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Ottawa Food Pantry and worked at Halterman Photography and Mann’s Greenhouse in Seneca. She was a member of the LaSalle County Home Extension and was named Homemaker of the Year. Bette was a member of St. Columba Church for more than 70 years and of Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, gardening, and golfing. Most importantly, she loved her family and being a farm wife.
She is survived by her husband, John; four children, Stephen J. (Debbie Hintz) Meyer of Ottawa, David C. (Janet) Meyer of Marseilles, Patricia J. Meyer of Lake Crystal, MN, and Paul R. (Nancy) Meyer of Marseilles; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Aubrey “Bud” Bader, and a sister, Ruth Yenerich.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Mark Meyer, Katy Meyer, Andrew Nortrup, Daniel Nortrup, Susan Trochlil, Lewis Uhrich, Logan Meyer, and Lauren Brennan.
Memorials may be directed for Masses at St. Columba or the donor’s choice.
