Kenneth Duane Lane, 75, of Lake Placid, FL, formerly of Marseilles, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at AdventHealth in Orlando, FL.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, December 3 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Ottawa American Legion honor squad.
Ken was born on March 29, 1948, in Ottawa, to George W. and Genevieve (Haff) Lane. On August 22, 1970, he married Barbara Carroll of Marseilles who survives.
He proudly served in the US Army and was an active member of the Ottawa American Legion Post 33. He was employed at GE Plastics until his retirement in 2003. However, he will be remembered most for his love of sports. From his early days as a formidable hurler in men’s fast pitch softball and a Marseilles Hall of Fame bowler to his role as a coach, guiding not only his sons but also several generations of youth in baseball and football. Even in retirement, his love for sports remained, transitioning into the role of the biggest fan at his grandchildren’s games and enjoying leisurely rounds of golf.
In retirement, he and his wife embraced the snowbird lifestyle in Florida, eventually finding a year-round haven where they recently purchased a house. In their Florida community, they cultivated friendships, sharing a unique tradition where the men gather daily under the tree at 4 pm, followed by the rest of the “street” joining in at 5 pm. Most days and weekends, you could find them enjoying music and the camaraderie of their close-knit community, a testament to the vibrant and fulfilling life they built together.
Survivors include his wife, Barb; two sons, Todd and Chad (Jennifer) Lane; one daughter, Sonya (Mark) Landers; his grandchildren, Grace Landers, Kate Landers, Scarlett Lane, and Evan Landers; his in-laws, Carol Lane, Wanda Prybylinski, and Thomas Stott; and many nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Joan, Patsy, Norma, and Phyllis; three brothers, William, Glenn, and Herbert; and one grandson, Lane Landers.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
