Earlville and Leland will soon pay the city of Ottawa for 911 dispatching. Ottawa City Commissioner James Less says Earlville will pay $14,000 a year for it. Leland will pay $8,000. He says Ottawa can take on the calls and the small communities can avoid higher costs.

Five years ago, a new Illinois law required communities to consolidate their 911 services so there are fewer dispatching centers across the state.
