Someone entered Aliska Hammon in a contest to win a free roof. The Grand Ridge woman didn’t know anything about it until WCMY News informed her Monday morning that she’s a top ten finalist. Beacon Building Products will pay for new roofs for three military veterans and give $2,500 to seven runners up. Hammon thinks her mom put her in the Beacon of Hope contest.

Hammon is a nurse’s aide and is working her way through school for a nursing degree. She says the roof has been bad and getting worse for four years. It has leaked into her son’s room and there’s moss growing on it. It’ll cost around $20,000 to replace because of asbestos.

More information about and voting in the Beacon of Hope contest is online at this link.
