Trident Agents executed a search warrant at 1008 Maple St. Streator Friday. Agents located approximately 30 grams of crack cocaine as well as items used in the packaging and sale of narcotics. 53-year-old Becky Tunget and 67-year-old William Spraggon, both of 1008 Maple Street in Streator were arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, a Class X Felony. Tunget and Spraggon were transported to the LaSalle County Jail to await a detention hearing. Also on Friday, Trident Agents executed a search warrant at 538 Frech St. Streator. Agents located approximately 17 grams of methamphetamine along with items used in the packaging and sale of narcotics. 29-year-old Shane M. Larson and 34-year-old Angel R. Martinez, both of 538 Frech St. Streator were charged with Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver a Class X felony. Larson was also arrested on an outstanding Livingston County Warrant for Failure to Appear and Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Martinez was transported to the LaSalle County Jail to await a detention hearing. Larson was transported to the Livingston County Jail and will later face charges in LaSalle County.

Trident was assisted by the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Department, LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Streator Police Department.

On Saturday Streator Police charged 21-year-old Cheyenne S Pratt of Pontiac with Retail theft at the Streator Walmart. She was given a citation and released with a notice to appear. Also charged was 21-year-old Shyan M Louis of Bureau Junction. She was also released with a notice to appear.

Thursday about 9 pm LaSalle County Deputies stopped 26-year-old Tyneka Phillips of Streator at Route 18 and East 9th Road and charged her with driving with a suspended registration.

Summerlike weather benefitted the 8th Annual Wine and Art Walk on Saturday in Ottawa. Amy Tate of Marseilles was walking the downtown area with 5 pals from Marseilles. She said every store had local art on display from embroidery to oil on canvas to jewelry.

Most revelers were seen enjoying a wine glass of red or white as they strolled Columbus or La Salle streets under mostly sunny skies and gentle breezes.

The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Friday that the State of Illinois has awarded $3.5 million in funding to 19 different applicants to support child and adolescent health. The size of the grants ranges from $92,000 to $200,000. 41% of the money was awarded to behavioral health treatment centers, 21% to schools, 21% to healthcare groups, 11% to local health departments and 5% to colleges. The state of Illinois funds the grants. “IDPH is dedicated to addressing the mental health needs of children and young people who have been through a very challenging and disruptive time as a result of the Covid pandemic,” said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra. “We are very pleased to be able to support these thoughtful and innovative strategies to strengthen child and adolescent health.” 

 

The funding opportunity was overseen by IDPH’s Office of Women’s Health & Family Services.

Illinois Valley Community College set out to raise 100 basic need items for the on-campus Eagles Peak food pantry. The drive yielded a total of 860 dental care items, from bars of soap and deodorants to tissue packs. Four of the categories surpassed 100 items each.

IVCC is celebrating reaching the centennial mark this year.

A 7-Eleven, located at 6350 W 135th Street in Palos Heights, just southwest of Chicago is celebrating after selling a jackpot-winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket worth $400,000.

The lucky player matched all five numbers in the Thursday midday drawing to score the $400,000 jackpot prize. The winning numbers were: 5-10-19-27-30. This is also an exciting win for the 7-Eleven in Palos Heights that sold the winning ticket, as the store will receive a selling bonus of one percent of the prize amount, or $4,000.

Winners have one year from the date of the winning draw in which to claim their prize. The Illinois Lottery encourages all lucky winners to write their name on the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place until they’re ready to claim their prize.

Girls cross-country

Ashlee Lord finished her LaSalle- Peru high school cross-country career with a Personal Record. She finished 136th in a time of 19:43 at the 2A cross-county state Championships. She was given a great send-off to her career with a parade starting in Oglesby to the school.

(New Orleans, LA) — Tyson Bagent turned the ball over four times as the Bears lost to the New Orleans Saints 24-17 at Caesar’s Superdome. Bagent threw a pair of touchdowns to Cole Kmet in the first half, but New Orleans took the lead with a short touchdown in the fourth quarter. Bagent threw two fourth-quarter picks and lost a fumble on Chicago’s final possession with two minutes left in regulation. Bagent had 220 passing yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in the loss. The Bears dropped to 2-and-7 and they host Carolina on Thursday.

>>Blackhawks Go Down Against Devils

(Chicago, IL) — The Blackhawks couldn’t complete a comeback attempt during a 4-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils at United Center. Taylor Hall gave Chicago an early lead with a goal in the second minute of the game, but the Hawks allowed the next three goals of the game and trailed by two in the third period. Ryan Donato made it a one-goal game with less than five minutes left in regulation, but the Devils sealed the game with a last-second empty-netter. Chicago is in last place in the Central Division with eight points and a 4-7-and-0 record. Chicago visits Tampa Bay on Thursday.

(Denver, CO) — The Bulls fell apart during the second half of their 123-101 loss to the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena on Saturday. The Bulls held a two-point lead at halftime before getting outscored 72-48 the rest of the way. Nikola Vucevic scored 19 points in the losing effort. The 2-and-5 Bulls host Utah tonight.

(Clemson, SC) — Number-15 Notre Dame will dive into this week’s CFP rankings following a 31-23 loss to Clemson at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The Fighting Irish trailed 24-6 at halftime and went scoreless in the fourth quarter after coming back within one possession. Sam Hartman passed for 146 yards and two interceptions with a rushing touchdown. Audric Estime racked up 120 yards from scrimmage and added a score on the ground. The 7-and-3 Irish host Wake Forest on Saturday.

In other college football action over the weekend, Illinois beat Minnesota 27-26, Northwestern lost to Iowa 10-7, Illinois State snuck past Missouri State 36-35, and Valparaiso took down Dayton 21-7.

Today, Illinois hosts Eastern Illinois, Notre Dame welcomes Niagara, Northwestern has a home game against Binghamton, Illinois State is at home against Lourdes, Northern Illinois visits number-seven Marquette, Valparaiso hosts Trinity Christian, Bradley is at UAB, Chicago State travels to Bowling Green, and UIC has a road game against Cincinnati.

(Chicago, IL) — The Cubs were one of three teams to have three Gold Glove winners. The MLB awarded second baseman Nico Hoerner, shortstop Dansby Swanson, and outfielder Ian Happ National League Gold Gloves yesterday. Swanson and Happ both won the award for the second year in a row, while this is the first win for Hoerner. The Rangers and Blue Jays also had three Gold Glove winners.

(Chicago, IL) — The Cubs have a clearer picture of their offseason needs. The Cubs picked up their team options on starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks and catcher Yan Gomes yesterday, meaning both players will be under contract for the 2024 season. However, starting pitcher Marcus Stroman will enter free agency after declining his player option, and Cody Bellinger will join him after declining his mutual option. Teams can begin signing free agents tonight.

>>White Sox Decline Options On Anderson, Hendriks

(Chicago, IL) — The White Sox are cleaning house. The Southsiders lost three players to declined options over the weekend. The Sox decided against picking up the team options for infielder Tim Anderson and closer Liam Hendriks. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Mike Clevinger declined his player option. Anderson had a down year after making back-to-back All-Star teams in 2021 and 2022. Hendriks needed Tommy John surgery after appearing in five games in his return from beating cancer in 2023. All three players are now free agents.
