Parents of children who died while serving their country live in a different world. Denise Williams, president of the Illinois Gold Star Mothers, explained it during a memorial event at the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial Sunday. She said life for her changed on November 1, 2010.

Williams says the world Gold Star Mothers live in is one where their children still live vividly in memory. She says the best way for everyone to honor their children is to be worthy of their sacrifice.

Gov. Pritzker says he can never understand–as well as the parents of children killed in service of their country can–just what the sacrifice means. He handed yellow roses to the Gold Star Mothers at the event.
