An unidentified woman was shot in Leland just after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday. LaSalle County Deputies responded to a call from the 300 block of Grant Street in Leland regarding a domestic incident. The woman was transported to Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital and then sent via Life Flight to a Rockford hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A male subject on the scene was taken into custody and charges are pending. The investigation continues by the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois State Police Crime Scene, and the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Firefighters from several departments extinguished a noontime fire Tuesday at a duplex in the 200 block of Sunset in Oglesby. Fire Departments from Utica, Tonica, and Cedar Point assisted Oglesby firemen. No one was injured. The occupants of the home were evacuated safely.

Illinois is part of a coalition of more than 30 states that is suing the company that owns and operates Facebook and Instagram. The lawsuit accuses Meta of harmful business practices targeting children. The coalition says Meta designed its social media platforms to include features that exploit young users’ psychological vulnerabilities to keep them using them longer, and that many of these product features are strongly linked to damaging psychological outcomes.

Governor Pritzker is proposing a plan to create a new state agency to house all early childhood programs and funding. The new unified agency is designed to provide a more equitable, integrated, and holistic system of services for young children and families in Illinois. To get the process started, Pritzker is signing an Executive Order and will work with the General Assembly on legislation next spring. Education expert Ann Whalen will serve as the Early Childhood Transition Director.

Illinois is awarding nearly ten million dollars to 40 different applicants across the state to support post-pandemic child and adolescent health. The grants range from 83 thousand dollars to just over 400 thousand dollars. Sixty percent of the grants are going to schools, 20 percent to hospital or clinic-based programs, 17-point-five-percent to local health departments, and two-and-a-half percent to colleges.

The Peoria County Coroner is identifying the construction worker who was hit and killed by a vehicle in Chillicothe. Christopher Neff was helping clear debris from an unrelated crash at the intersection of Hillcrest Drive and Route 29 when he was hit Monday morning. Neff was using proactive safety measures, which included wearing neon clothing and having caution lights illuminated on his construction vehicle. The case remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.

LaSalle County Deputies clocked 34-year-old Christopher Huslig of Streator speeding 78 miles an hour in a 55-zone Tuesday morning just after 4:00 in Brookfield Township near Illinois 170 and North 19th Road.

Early Tuesday morning during a traffic stop at North Park and East Main Streets in Streator, LaSalle County Deputies arrested Jimmy Payton on a charge of driving on a suspended license. He was released with a court date.

Just before 8:00 Tuesday evening at North Park and East First Streets in Streator, LaSalle County Sheriff’s Deputies charged 39-year-old Frederick Dutton of Tonica with driving on a revoked license. Dutton was released with a notice to appear in court.

A former NFL player charged in the death of his mother last month in suburban Maywood is due in court today. Sergio Brown is set to appear in court on charges of first-degree murder and concealment of a dead body. Brown was arrested earlier this month while reentering the United States from Mexico. Myrtle Brown was found dead on September 16th near a creek behind her Maywood home. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Officer ruled her death a homicide, saying she suffered multiple injuries during an assault.

A 46-year-old Lafayette, Indiana, man faces a charge of failure to signal and driving on a suspended license. Ottawa Police stopped Phillip E. Spratt on Monday at Norris Drive and Chestnut Street. He has a notice to appear in court.

Ottawa Fire made a run to 906 Canal Street just after 5:00 Monday afternoon. A faulty smoke detector on the 6th Floor triggered the alarm.

Raymond Edward Bailey of Naplate passed away at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center on Monday, October 23rd. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 28th at the Mueller Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, in Ottawa, IL. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home.

L-P survives tough first set to beat Geneseo, advance to regional final

The La Salle-Peru volleyball team bounced back from a bad first set to beat Geneseo in a Class 3A La Salle-Peru Regional semifinal Tuesday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are advancing to the World Series for the first time since 2001. The D-Backs will face the Texas Rangers in the World Series. Game One of the World Series will take place on Friday in Arlington.

(Chicago, IL) — The Blackhawks weren’t able to get the puck past Jeremy Swayman during a 3-0 loss to the Boston Bruins at United Center. The game was tied entering the second period before Boston took the lead with a goal from Pavel Zacha to put the Bruins up for good. Petr Mrazek made 40 saves as the Hawks were outshot 43-23. Chicago remains in last place in the Central Division with four points and a 2-5-and-0 record. The Blackhawks visit the Golden Knights on Friday.

(Chicago, IL) — The Bulls begin the 2023-24 season with a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder at United Center tonight. The Bulls want to return to the playoffs this season after missing out with a loss in the play-in round last year. Chicago has made the postseason in just one of the last six seasons, and they return most of the same roster from last year. Tonight’s game will tip off at 7:00 p.m.

(Chicago, IL) — The Cubs are in the market for a new assistant general manager. According to ESPN, Craig Breslow is set to become Boston’s new head of baseball operations. The 43-year-old had been serving as the Cubs’ assistant general manager and vice president of pitching. Breslow has been in the Cubs organization since 2019.

(Country Club Hills, IL) — Another Chicago suburb would like to be the new home of the Bears. The town of Country Club Hills released a statement saying that they would like to be considered for a new stadium site. The statement did not give a specific location for the potential site, but it implored the Bears to not rule out the south suburbs as they continue their search for a new spot. Arlington Heights, Waukegan, and Naperville are among other suburbs that the Bears are considering. Meanwhile, the team will visit the Chargers this weekend.
