Streator Police Chief John Franklin has confirmed that at about 5:00 a.m., Joshua Salters, 30, was the victim of a homicide. Salters’ body, shot multiple times, was found in bushes in a narrow alley between Sterling Avenue and Laura St. Officers found Salters’s cell phone near his body.

Between 12:15 and 12:45 a.m. this morning, neighbors had told officers they had heard gunshots, “but no one called the police,” Franklin said. “When the body was discovered, there was frost on his hoody, so he was dead for a few hours.”

Friends earlier had tried to stop at the Police Department, 204 S. Bloomington Street, unaware the police entrance is in the back of the City Hall building, which is locked.

“Right now, we have a lot of forensic evidence, but we don’t have any real leads,” Franklin continued. “We are working with the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office and the La Salle County State Attorney’s office. The investigation is ongoing at this time.”
