As the Ottawa canal re-watering project gets into the homestretch, the city is still looking for donations to cover the nearly $900,000 cost. Grants, donations, and military reserve training have covered a lot of the work. Ottawa Canal Association President Arnie Bandstra says a little more in voluntary donations would help.

The donation goal is $200,000 and $175,000 has come in. Donations can be made at Ottawa City Hall.

There will be two to three feet of water in a half-mile stretch of the Illinois and Michigan Canal in Ottawa when the project’s done.
