The Illinois Department of Public Health says it has caught up on a backlog in its tally of coronavirus cases. So the number surged by 5,368 Friday for 245,371 in all.
Twenty-nine more people have died from the virus across the state for a total of 8,143. A LaSalle County woman in her 80s is among the latest to die of it. Hers is the 52nd fatal case from the county.
The LaSalle County Health Department reports 11 more recoveries for 760 so far. And there were 48 more new confirmed cases for 1,357 in the county. The total case count has been adjusted after address checks showed some people initially logged as from the county actually live elsewhere.
