Streator Police shortly after midnight Tuesday dealt with a run-away burglary suspect who ended up being caught and arrested. 50-year-old Marvin Martin is charged with residential burglary after being found by homeowners in the 200 block of Pleasant Avenue. After being confronted by the homeowners, Moore escaped and was arrested minutes later on Bridge Street. Martin was taken to the LaSalle County Jail.

The University of Illinois Police Department is investigating a shooting earlier this week in Champaign. Authorities say shots were fired Monday night in the six-hundred block of South Second Street. No injuries were reported and officers recovered four shell casings. The incident triggered an Illini-Alert emergency notification sent to all students, faculty, and staff.

Governor Pritzker is pledging Illinois’ support for Israel following the Hamas attack. During a gathering yesterday in the Chicago area, the governor said we must honor the many peace-loving Palestinians, but proclaimed that Hamas is a terrorist organization backed by Iran. Pritzker, who is Jewish, said he put State Police and law enforcement across the state on alert at synagogues and other gathering places for Jews. He added that there is no immediate threat.

The 104-year-old Chicago woman who made history after setting a world record as the oldest person to skydive has died. Dorothy Hoffner passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday. Her death came a week after she set the record after landing on the ground at the Skydive Chicago Airport in Ottawa. The centenarian made her first skydive at the age of 100.

The Illinois Liquor Commission has approved a permanent rule, effective September 21st regulating the placement of co-branded alcoholic beverages on retail sales floors. An emergency rule was set to expire this coming October 23rd. A “co-branded alcoholic beverage” is any alcoholic beverage containing the same or a similar brand name, logo, or packaging as a non-alcoholic beverage. The permanent rule applies to all establishments in Illinois that sell packaged alcohol for off-premise consumption. The rule seeks to protect the public from

confusion between alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages with similar branding and to prevent their marketing to children.

A Chicago Cubs security guard is out of the hospital after suffering an allergic reaction to an unidentified substance on a piece of mail. The incident yesterday at the team’s front office in the 11-hundred block of West Waveland Avenue. It triggered a hazardous materials response from the Chicago Fire Department. Team officials say the guard found a foreign substance contained in a small package as part of the mail screening process.

A man is charged with vandalizing Governor Pritzker’s home in Chicago. Adam Dabash of Villa Park faces two counts of Stalking and one count of Criminal Damage to Property. State police say the suspect threw rocks at Pritzker’s Gold Coast home Monday morning, breaking three windows. The Governor and First Lady were at home at the time of the incident, but no one was injured. Chicago police were able to successfully locate Dabash on POD cameras and took him into custody without incident.

50-year-old Amy Porter of Princeton is charged with driving with a suspended license, no valid registration, and lack of insurance, after a traffic stop by Ottawa Police Tuesday at 403 East Norris Drive. Porter was released with a court date.

An Ottawa man is charged with retail theft and criminal damage to property after an incident at 400 East Washington Street on Tuesday. Ottawa Police issued a notice to appear in court to 40-year-old Keith Kazirskis.

Following a hit-and-run accident on Monday morning at 7th Street and Chambers in Peru, police arrested 28-year-old Zackary J. Bickett of Tonica. Bickett was charged with failure to give aid and information about an unattended vehicle, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed. He was released with a notice to appear.

Chloe Ann Hettel, 15, of Buda, TX (born in Ottawa) passed away on Monday, October 2nd. Visitation will be from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at St. Columba Cemetery.

Joan Elaine Graves (Lindquist) was born in Rockford. Will have a celebration of life on Saturday, October 14th at 11 AM at Salem Lutheran Church, 1145 DeKalb Ave, Sycamore. Visitation will be on Friday, October 13th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at DeFiore Funeral Home in Huntley, and one hour before the celebration service.

Lois J. (Breyer) Rowe, 94, of Ottawa, passed away on October 6th, at her home. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on October 14th at Grace Baptist Church in Ottawa. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.

Marquette 2, St. Bede 0: At Rural Varna, the No. 2-seeded Crusaders defeated the No. 6 Bruins in Tuesday’s semifinals of the Tri-County Conference Tournament at Midland High School. Crusaders now play No. 5 Mallards in the championship match.

Ottawa and Streator played the much anticipated rival match under the chilly lights at King Field. The Pirates lost to the Bulldogs 4-2.

>>Blackhawks Beat Penguins In Opener 

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Blackhawks scored three goals in the third period during a 4-2 season-opening win over the Penguins in Pittsburgh. The Blackhawks trailed by two in the second period, but Ryan Donato and Cole Guttman both scored to tie the game by the middle of the third period. Jason Dickinson knocked in the go-ahead goal with under five minutes left in regulation before Nick Foligno put the game away in the final 90 seconds. The Blackhawks visit the Bruins tonight.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Bears have brought in some depth at receiver. The Bears signed wide receiver Collin Johnson to their practice squad yesterday. Johnson last played in a regular season game in 2021, when he caught 11 passes for 105 yards in 12 appearances with the Giants. Chicago waived kicker John Parker Romo to make room for Johnson on the practice squad. The Bears host the Vikings on Sunday.
