Across the state of Illinois, about 69% of households have answered the 2020 census. Ellisa Johnson, a regional director at the Census Bureau, says LaSalle County is at about the same level of participation.
While the Census Bureau knows which addresses it hasn’t received anything from, it doesn’t know exactly how many people live at those addresses. So it’s now sending people to knock on those doors.
The count will influence representation in the state legislature and in Congress, and it will affect how much federal and state government money gets spent in every neighborhood.
