Tonight The White Sox host the Kansas City Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Reynaldo López gets the start against The Royals Danny Duffy.  The Sox are on a roll, winning nine of its last ten games. Pre-game at 6:35 with the 1st pitch at 7:10pm on the home for White Sox baseball 1430 WCMY.

 

The Cubs visit the Reds tonight.  Kyle Hendricks faces Cincinnati’s Tyler Mahle.  The North-siders has dropped four of six coming in but remain in first place in the NL Central.

 

The Cardinals dropped a doubleheader with the Pirates at Busch Stadium.  Pittsburgh defeated St. Louis 4-3 in eight innings in Game One and then The Pirates blanked the Cards 2-0 in the seven inning night cap.  St. Louis hosts the Indians tonight with Daniel Ponce de Leon facing Cleveland’s Triston McKenzie.

The Cardinals’ will be without Andrew Miller who was placed on the 10-day injured list.  The left-handed reliever has shoulder fatigue and is expected to be ready to return in a week after resting. 

 

Once again teams and leagues suspended play and practices due to the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha Wisconsin. The Mets and Marlins took the field for 42 seconds of silence in honor of Jackie Robinson and then left the field as the game was called off.  Six other games did not take place as players got their opportunity to protest.  The NBA has decided to continue the playoffs today or tomorrow. The NHL cancelled play on Thursday and today and expected to return over the weekend. Most of the NFL teams postponed practices yesterday and will return today.

 

 Hideki Matsuyama shot a three-under par to hold a one-stroke lead  after the first round of the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields.  

 

NASCAR continues this weekend in Florida at the Daytona International Speedway.

 

Hall of Fame Arizona basketball coach Lute Olsen has passed away. Multiple outlets report Olsen died Thursday at the age of 85. Olson guided the Wildcats to 589 wins, four Final Four appearances and one national title in 1997.

 

Local Sports

The LPO co-op girls swim team is 2-0 with a victory over the home team of Pontiac 80-54. Peyton Heagy won the 200-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. 

Nicole Pocivasek took first in the 200 individual medley, 400 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
