The referendum on keeping or eliminating the LaSalle County Auditor’s Office won’t be on the ballot. State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly says the County Board voted on giving the referendum to the people last October, more than a year before this November’s election. That made it a month too early.

Donnelly says County Clerk Lori Bongartz contacted her about a challenge from two people represented by a Palos Heights law firm.

That means Democrat Nikki Baer of LaSalle and Republican Stephanie Jo Thompson of Sheridan no longer face the risk of winning the job but not being able to take office. Donnelly says, “May the best woman win!”
