Women producing more of their own milk than they need for their babies have another option for donating it to mothers who can’t produce enough. St. Elizabeth Hospital this month joined the Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes.
Lactation Consultant Brandi Duffy says the hospital hadn’t received its first donation yet as of Tuesday morning. Not a lot of mothers know about it yet and there is a screening process, including a health screening, to go through first. But she knows women are interested.
St. Elizabeth isn’t a place where moms who need more can pick it up yet. For now, it’s a drop off for milk to be refrigerated, pasteurized, and distributed throughout a regional milk bank network.
