José Abreu is the American League Player of the Week. The White Sox first baseman received the award after tying a Major League record against the Cubs over the weekend, homering in four straight at-bats. This is the fifth time that Abreu has been named the AL Player of the Week.
Javier Báez belted a pair of home runs as the Cubs powered past the Tigers 9-3 in Detroit. David Botee added a solo blast and four RBI in Chicago’s second straight win. The series continues tonight with Tyler Chatwood opposing Detroit’s Spencer Turnbull.
Paul Goldschmidt homered and drove in three to help fuel the Cardinals’ 9-3 victory over the Royals at Busch Stadium. Jack Flaherty allowed no runs over five innings to earn the win. The series resumes tonight with Adam Wainwright taking the mound against KC’s Matt Harvey.
The Fire make their long-awaited return to Soldier Field tonight when they face Cincinnati. It will be the first time Chicago has played at the stadium in nearly 15-years. Tonight’s match will be played without fans present.

The Ottawa Pirates took the championship at the Streator Invitational at The Eastwood. Jonathan Cooper and Nick Angus each scored a 77 and tied for 2nd place. Streator’s Jacob Magana led all golfers with a 74.
Also in High School Golf, Morris defeated The Seneca Fighting Irish 165-173 at The Creek. The Redskins improve to 3-0 on the season!
The LPO Girl’s Co-op Swim Team started their season with a win at Olympia yesterday 94-34. The team swept the events, with Peyton Heagy, Nicole Pocivasek and Brooklyn Lowery were all first place finishers.
