 Kyle Schwarber hit the go-head, two-run homer in the sixth inning as the Cubs salvaged a 2-1 win in the final game of their series against the crosstown rival at Wrigley Field.  Yu Darvish struck out 10 and gave up only one run over seven innings to get the win.  Jose Abreu homered in an MLB-record-tying fourth straight at-bat for the White Sox.  Dylan Cease only gave up two runs over six innings but took the loss for the south siders, who had a seven-game win streak snapped.  The Sox are off today, while the Cubs visit the Tigers tonight with Alec Mills opposing Detroit’s Casey Mize.  

 

Yadier Molina had four hits and two RBI as the Cardinals beat the Reds 6-2 at Busch Stadium. Dylan Carlson added his own two-run shot, the first homer of his career. The Cards host the Royals tonight with Jack Flaherty opposing KC’s Brad Keller.

 

Nine Members Of Bears Receive False Positive COVID-19 Test Results. The Bears weren’t the only team affected by false reports over the weekend. The NFL is investigating the results.

 

Dustin Johnson has reclaimed the world’s No. 1 ranking with a runaway win at The Northern Trust. Johnson had a dominant week by winning the FedEx Cup playoff opener by 11 shots. 

 

Sophia Popov has become the first female golfer from Germany to win the Women’s British Open by two strokes at Royal Troon.

 

Takuma Sato won his second Indianapolis 500.  

 

Kevin Harvick clinched NASCAR’s regular-season Cup Series title with a dominant victory at Dover International Speedway.

Girls High School Tennis

The 2020 season started with the Lady Pirates earning co-champions alongside Normal in Ottawa’s Nite Lite Invite. Marta Johnson and Ella Marvel placed second in “Class A” doubles. Class “B” doubles, Grace Satterfield and Avery Landers defeated teammates Tessa Thiry and Madison Lineback. In singles, Sara Meyer placed third. 

The Roger Keller Classic at Edgebrook. Somonauk, Newark-Serena and host Sandwich finished 2-3-4 in the six-team high school tournament.

 Congratulations to Ryan Cuitino for winning the 73rd annual Pine Hills Golf Invitational over the weekend. The Senior Division winner was John Wright and Dan Caparusso won the Super Seniors class.
