In the effort to keep the coronavirus out of schools, the state has a policy of keeping entire sets of siblings home if any of them are sick. Supt. Cleve Threadgill talked about it before the Ottawa Elementary School District Board last night.
The rule applies even if the children go to different schools. So, if a child who goes to an Ottawa Elementary school gets sick and he or she has a brother or sister at Ottawa High School, the high school will get a call about sending the older sibling home. Also, if any student is suspected to have COVID-19, the school district must contact the LaSalle County Health Department.
Today is the first day of school for Ottawa Elementary students.
