Ottawa High School Supt. Mike Cushing says fewer than 300 students were in the building for the first day of school Monday. Up to a quarter of students are to be there on a given day Monday through Thursday, with the rest learning remotely. All of them are to learn remotely on Friday. Some have taken the option to learn remotely only.

Cushing says around 150 are choosing to learn remotely only. More than 250 have requested a computer. OHS has some available. The district is applying for a grant for internet hot spot devices to help those with limited internet service connect.

The plan was for OHS to figure out by Labor Day whether to keep going like that, however, it’s taking things on a week-by-week basis. Cushing told the school board last night he doesn’t expect to know until Friday how next week will look.
