The Cardinals and Cubs split a doubleheader at Wrigley Field.  Brad Miller’s two-run double in the top of the seventh inning lifted St. Louis to a 3-1 win in Game One.   David Bote’s  three-run homer capped a four-run sixth inning as the Cubs rallied for a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.  Duane Underwood Junior got the win and Jeremy Jeffress the save for Chicago, which snapped a four-game skid. The series continues tonight with Yu Darvish taking the ball against the Redbirds’ Daniel Ponce de Leon.

 

The Blackhawks look to keep their season alive tonight when they face the Golden Knights in Game Five in Edmonton.  Chicago took Game Four, 3-1 but Vegas leads the series 3-1.

 

The Chicago Sky face the Las Vegas Aces tonight in Bradenton, Florida.  The Sky’s record is 7-and-4. 

 

At the Top Seed Open in Kentucky, Jennifer Brady has won her first WTA title by beating Jil Teichmann. It was the first professional tennis event in the United States since the onset of the coronavirus. 

 

Soldier Field is going to look very empty during Bears’ games this season.  The team announced yesterday that home games won’t include in-person fans due to concerns about the pandemic.  The Bears made this decision after speaking with city health officials.  The team believes a plan could be put in place to bring fans back to Soldier Field once it is deemed safe and appropriate.  The Bears home opener is against the New York Giants on September 20th.

Washington Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia is the first player in the major leagues born in the 2000’s to hit a home run.  The 20-year-old hit a two-run shot off the Atlanta Braves in the second inning. The Nationals did lose however 7-6 to the Braves..
