Former Governor Jim Thompson has died. He was 84. Thompson was a Republican and served as governor from 1977 to 1991. He was the state’s longest serving governor.
In a statement issued this morning, Democratic Gov. Pritzker says Thompson was known to treat people with kindness and decency. Pritzker says Thompson “set an example for public service of which Illinoisans should be proud”.
