The White Sox topped the Tigers 7-5 in Detroit.  Luis Robert drove in three runs for Chicago.  Dylan Cease picked up the win despite giving up five runs over six innings for the Sox, who have won two in a row.  Chicago is off today before opening a scheduled three-game series at home against the Cardinals tomorrow night.

 

 Kyle Hendricks tossed six innings of one-run ball as the Cubs cruised past the Indians 7-2 in Cleveland.  David Bote had a two-run single and Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant belted solo homers for Chicago.  Jason Heyward also plated two runs for the Cubs, who have won eight of their last nine games to improve to 12-and-3.  Chicago opens a four-game series at home tonight against the Brewers with Yu Darvish opposing Milwaukee’s Brett Anderson.

 

The Blackhawks look to rebound today in Game Two of their playoff series against the Golden Knights.  Chicago fell, 4-1, to Vegas in Game One Tuesday. 

 

The Chicago Sky to 89-71 defeated the Phoenix Mercury 89-71 in the WNBA and improved to 6 and 3. The Sky faces the Connecticut Sun tomorrow night.

 

Coco Gauff overcame some shaky serving Wednesday to beat No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka to reach the Top Seed Open quarterfinals with her third career victory over a top-15 opponent. Today in  second-round action will include the 31st career matchup between Serena Williams and her older sister, Venus.

 

The NFL is reporting that its COVID-19 positive testing rate is under one percent.  The league says it’s well under the threshold to avoid outbreaks at team facilities at 0.46 percent.  The NFL has conducted over 109-thousand tests and the rate includes all players, coaches and staff.

One day after the Big Ten and Pac-12 announced they would not be participating in sports this fall, The Big 12 approved a plan to begin fall sports including football after September 1st. The proposed football schedule would allow each team to play one non-conference game before conference play begins September 26th. The Big 12 title game will be scheduled for Dec. 12.
