 Eloy Jimenez capped a four-run first inning with a three-run homer and the White Sox went on to double up the Tigers 8-4 in Detroit.  Edwin Encarnacion also homered and Jose Abreu went 3-for-4 with two RBI as Chicago snapped a three-game skid.  Matt Foster got the win with two hitless innings of relief.  

 

Jason Heyward launched a three-run home run, powering the Cubs to a 7-1 win over the Indians in Cleveland.  Jon Lester turned in six strong innings, allowing one run on three hits for the victory.  The Cubs and Tribe finish the two-game set today with Kyle Hendricks getting the start against Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco.     

 

 The Blackhawks fell, 4-1, to the Golden Knights in their first-round playoff series in Edmonton.   Corey Crawford stopped 29 of 33 shots he faced on the night for the Hawks.  Chicago and Vegas meet again in Game 2 tomorrow. 

 

 The 5-3 Chicago Sky faces the Phoenix Mercury tonight.  Chicago fell to the Seattle Storm, 89-71, on Monday.  

 

Serena Williams won her first pro match in sixth months at the Top Seed Open in Lexington on Tuesday.  Williams beat Bernarda Pera in the first round.  She’ll face off with her older sister Venus Williams in the second round today.

 

Major League Soccer was able to finish the tournament and The Portland Timbers are the MLS is Back Tournament champions.  Portland defeated Orlando City. 

The Big Ten Conference is postponing all fall sports this season due to safety concerns about COVID-19.  This includes all regular-season contests and Big Ten Championships and Tournaments.  The Pac-12 Conference is also postponing all fall sports.  Both the Big Ten and Pac-12 plan to explore the possibility of playing their fall seasons in the spring.  According to reports, the Big 12 is planning on going forward with its scheduled football season for now.
