Lanes were closed on southbound Interstate 55 in Plainfield Friday morning following a crash involving a semi-truck, spilling fuel and meat onto the highway. The accident happened at about 4:15 a.m. on I-55 near Route 126. Four vehicles were involved in the accident in the northbound lanes and two in the southbound lanes. A northbound semi-truck lost control, crossed the median, and hit a southbound semi-truck. According to an ABC7 report, ambulances transported three people with no life-threatening injuries to hospitals. One of the vehicles was leaking fuel, prompting a hazmat response. Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.

The northbound lanes on I-55 are open as of 8:36 this morning. Until the clean-up is complete, southbound lanes will remain closed.

According to Adam with the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Communication Center, the truck is upright, and clean-up service is in progress.
