Cookies, sandwiches, and other food at the Handy Foods bakery and deli won’t be available for a few days. A store announcement says the department is closed until Monday. An employee tested positive for the coronavirus. He or she isn’t sick but hasn’t been at work for several days and won’t return until testing negative. The store is having the deli and bakery department professionally cleaned.
Mike McGrogan, one of the owners of Handy Foods, was on WCMY’s Morning Meeting today. He says the bakery and deli can’t fulfill special orders until it reopens. He made telephone calls to notify customers of cancellations.
McGrogan says the LaSalle County Health Dept. didn’t require that the bakery and deli be closed and cleaned, because it doesn’t appear that the employee brought COVID-19 into the store. But he says his family felt it was the right thing to do.
This story was updated after Mike McGrogan’s appearance on WCMY’s talk show Wednesday morning.
