Some people are getting Illinois unemployment debit cards they didn’t ask for. Illinois Department of Employment Security Public Information Officer Rebecca Cisco says that’s a warning that someone has stolen your identity.
Someone is using the stolen identity to steal from the state. The state normally sends debit cards to people on unemployment. When someone fraudulently applies for benefits in someone else’s name, the thief changes the payment method to get the money.
Cisco says don’t ignore it and think the problem will resolve itself.

Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei issued a notice this week about the fraud, saying someone in the area has received the unrequested unemployment card.
