LaSalle County’s unemployment rate for June was 13.5%. That’s down from 15.6% in May. Bureau County’s rate improved from 11.6% to 10.0%. Putnam County’s dropped from 12.3% to 10.9%. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the rate for all three counties combined was 14.5% in May and 12.6% in June.
Grundy County, which is in a different region for the state’s unemployment calculations, had slightly higher unemployment in June. The rate went from 13.8% to 13.9%. Until just a few days ago, Grundy County was also in the same reopening region as Chicago which has had to follow stricter rules for letting business resume during the pandemic.
