LaSalle County Democratic Party Chair Dani Brzozowski says if the allegations in a criminal case against ComEd are true, House Speaker Michael Madigan should resign. The utility company is paying a $200 million fine to settle a complaint that it gave more than $1.3 million in payments of various types to Madigan associates in exchange for legislation that helped the company. Mentioning governors Dan Walker, George Ryan, and Rod Blagojevich, Brzozowski says, “The terrible, long history of corruption in our state government is shameful and bipartisan.”

She’s running for Congress against Adam Kinzinger, who joined two other Congressional Republicans in saying, “The people of Illinois deserve better than Illinois Democrats’ embarrassing, systemic corruption.” The statement says it’s unprecedented for there to be simultaneous investigations against a governor and an Illinois House speaker. The other U.S. House members in the statement are Rodney Davis of central Illinois and John Shimkus of southern Illinois.
