The Illinois State Police (ISP) conducted a Distracted Driving Enforcement during the month of August. ISP Troop 3, with headquarters located in Des Plaines, Elgin, and Joliet, reported 54 distracted driving tickets, and one warning was issued. A total of 74 tickets and seven warnings were issued to drivers.

The ISP said the Driving Distracted Enforcement program provided extra patrol coverage that was able to focus on the issues that distracted driving causes: reducing serious crashes and saving lives. Federal Traffic Safety funds provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation financed the program.

The primary function of Troopers in Troop 3 is to patrol interstates I-55, I-80, I-57, I-355, I-290, IL-53, and many rural/unincorporated areas throughout the counties.
